About This Class
Express Yourself is a songwriting and music video program created for individuals who are minimally speaking or who use AAC. Participants shape the artistic vision from concept to premiere through lyric writing, music exploration, movement, improv, storytelling, and collaborative planning.

This class is designed for multimodality communicators who benefit from individualized pacing, adapted movement, and the support of communication partners. Acting, movement, and music instructors guide the process with input from speech and language and occupational therapy advisors.

Who Should Enroll:

Participants sixteen or older

Individuals who are minimally speaking

Individuals with apraxia or unreliable speech

Individuals who use AAC or other communication supports

Artists who want to collaborate and create with like-minded peers

Collaborating as an ensemble with support from communication partners

Shaping a shared creative vision as a group

Expressing yourself through movement, music, improv, and storytelling in ways that match your communication and motor planning needs

Building confidence with movement and choreography taught in clear, accessible steps

Developing original lyrics and shaping class songs

Choosing how you want to be heard in the final project, whether through your own voice, singing, or your device’s voice

Recording simple contributions from home with support

Exploring costume and set elements that reflect your creative choices

Helping plan the visual direction of music video scenes

Contributing meaningfully to a multi-week creative process
